The Vienna International Community on Sustainable Development (VICOSD) was founded to address the importance of sustainable development for society in the 21st century.

In times when sustainable development has become a serious issue that is widely being discussed, projects should be well thought-out in order to support the spreading of the idea of sustainable development and its positive consequences for humanity. The World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg provides a global starting point for the international community to draw up feasible concepts in order to promote the idea of sustainable development.

One of the most important challenges is the closing of information gaps within civil society regarding the field of sustainable development. VICOSD understands sustainable development as a chance for the 21st century - to not only save the world from environmental disasters and other tragedies, but also to promote a new, sustainable way of economic growth.

VICOSD further acknowledges its responsibility to provide access to its ideas and views for a great variety of institutions and tries to take every chance to do so.
