General Info
The basic function of the IDAE is to promote energy efficiency and the rational use of energy in Spain. It also seeks to promote diversity of energy sources and the use of renewable sources of energy. It promotes these aims through dissemination activities, technical consultancy and the implementation of projects with a technologically innovative component.
In the pursuit of its objectives the IDAE carries out the following activities:
- Technical consultancy for government departments at national, regional and local level, with a view to optimising the results of activities to improve energy efficiency and diversification.
- Technical support for users (both companies and individuals). The IDAE, as an independent body, also gives technical advice to financial institutions concerning energy projects.
- Diffusion activities promoting energy efficiency and renewable sources of energy.
- Co-operation agreements with business sectors and associations to foster energy efficiency and the uptake of renewable energy by industry.
- Product development, in order to systematise the range of services the IDAE offers and define products facilitating:
- Introduction of new, more efficient technologies on the market.
- Incorporation of mature technologies on the Spanish market in cases where potential user sectors are insufficiently aware of them.
- Technology transfer to the Spanish industrial fabric of mature technologies which can be adapted or developed for Spanish industry.
- Financial and technical support for the implementation of energy efficient installations and diversification of energy sources, such as those using renewable sources of energy, along three main lines of action:
- Third-Party Finance, in which the IDAE recoups its investment and the cost of the services it provides through the resulting energy savings. Application of this financial formula to combined heat and power (CHP) projects usually takes place through joint ventures ("Temporary Business Unions", UTE's and "Economic Interest Groups", AIEs).
- Shareholdings in joint-stock companies. This formula is mainly used with wind power and biomass projects.
- Co-operation agreements to promote the development of technologies in their final phase or commercial development by means of demonstrations projects.
- Participation in the management and promotion of European Community programmes and promotion of Spanish technologies abroad, facilitating their introduction in international markets, particularly in Europe, the Mediterranean region and Latin America.
