Rothamstead Research

The Plant and Invertebrate Ecology Division has been carrying out research on the development and exploitation of non-food crops as alternative and more sustainable sources of energy production since 1992. The transfer of the Willow programme to Rothamstead led to the creation of an energy crop programme. This allows a greater opportunity to integrate work on genetics, agronomy and pest and disease management pertaining to the production and improvements of biofuel crops as well as investigating the implications of such crops for enhancements of farmland diversity.
