E.ON UK Plc (formerly PowerGen) is the UK's largest integrated energy company, with around 9 million retail customers, 4.8 million distribution customers and a portfolio of world-class power stations capable of providing electricity to 8 million homes. The need to cut CO₂ levels in the atmosphere has raised the importance of renewable energy technologies such as wind power and biomass, and Powergen already has many projects generating green energy, including 16 wind farms and the largest hydro-electric scheme in England and Wales.
