General Info
The Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten) is the central administrative authority for matters concerning the supply and use of energy. Its main purpose is to implement the energy policy programme set out by the Swedish Parliament in the spring of 1997, with the objective of creating an ecologically sustainable and economically viable energy system.
The Swedish Energy Agency's work is aimed at the establishment of safe, efficient and environmentally benign supply and use of energy. This is done in a number of ways, such as supporting research into renewable energy sources, technology procurement of energy efficient products and investment grants intended to encourage the development of renewable energy processes.
In addition, the Agency's duties include ensuring that the Swedish grid, i.e. the system for long- distance transmission of electrical energy, is operated efficiently in order to ensure competition within the electricity supply industry.
