General Info
The ERC views their mission in RTD activities focusing on combustion and gasification of solid fuels - especially biomass, equipment modernisation in general, energy efficiency, and environmental protection. The Centre's another important activity is represented by accredited measurements and testing of boilers and other combustion equipments, which are provided for either by the Centre's own laboratory or in situ of actual operations. A specialised accredited laboratory, No. 1166.3, has been integrated into the ERC structure. ERC provides not only for measurements of harmful emissions but also is responsible for training and education of measurement technicians of all qualification levels. The ERC is a university training institution for doctoral students concerning the study programme, 'Energy Conversion Systems'.
The Energy Research Center RTD activities are mainly oriented by efforts to find solutions for problems of efficient energy generation and rational utilisations of power, inclusive problems of environmental protection.
In this respect RTD activities are focused on renewables, especially biomass, but also other fuels like coal or various sorts of waste. Concerning combustion, research concentrates on fuel assessments, analyses of combustion efficiency, production of harmful substances, equipment modernisation for increased efficiencies, and operational reliability. Research of biomass gasification for co-generation represents a new field of RTD activities of the Center. Investigations have been started to establish suitability of different biomass products for gasification by static and fluidised bed reactors.
