General Info

The IWEA promotes the use of wind energy in Ireland. It's members are business people, environmentalists, academics and land owners who recognise that wind energy will soon become one of Ireland's most significant sources of energy, and are working to hasten that day - for the good of Ireland and the planet. Activities of the Association include:

  • Working to influence government policy in renewable energy
  • Working to ensure fair access to the Irish electricity grid
  • Making recommendations to Government on proposed legislation (e.g. EU Electricity Directive)
  • Commissioning authoritative reports
  • Working with other environmental organisations in Ireland
  • Advancing wind energy through membership in IBEC, An Taisce, etc.
  • Participating on relevant committees (e.g. the Renewable Energy Strategy Group of the Government Green Paper on Sustainable Energy)
  • Working with the European Wind Energy Association in Brussels on European-level initiatives
  • Maintaining a web site
  • Holding conferences and presenting papers
  • Publishing a quarterly newsletter
