Founded in 1987, Prospektiker is an independent SME, which specializes inn foresight and prospective - strategic studies for the public and private sector. Prospektiker has conducted a large number of futures studies, mainly for local and regional administrations in the Basque Country, but also for companies and the European Commission. From 1995 to the end of 2001, Prospektiker was in charge of managing an exhaustive observation system of the energy field for one of Spain's major electricity companies, with the objective of identifying and reporting on the future trends in the industry and its environment. This project, called "Vigía Europa", was managed through an extensive database, which contains information on market trends, R&D investments and technological innovation by utilities, regulatory frameworks and more. Related sectors such as the European coal industry, external costs of energy, or consumption trends in industry, commerce and households have been the subject of broad futures studies.

From 1992 onward, Prospektiker has participated in European Research projects, collaborating with the FAST-Programme in the organization of the Europrospective Conference in Namur, with the DG XVII in the analysis of external costs of wind energy and, as project coordinator, in the Leonardo project "TransFoCo", which formed part of the Study and Analysis string. These activities on European level continue presently within the EESD project "EurEnDel Technology and Social Visions for Europe's Energy Future" and the present project "Creating Renewable Energy Market-Places for Investors and Regional Actors in Rural Areas".
