In 2008-9, the innovation challenge team at NESTA, the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts was involved in the Big Green Challenge, a £1-million (1.15 million euro) prize fund for communities which plan to reduce their carbon footprint significantly. The project also involves the Energy Savings Trust and CRed, the carbon reduction charity based at the University of East Anglia (UK).
