Climate change is one of the main environmental, socio-economic, political,
and security challenges facing the world today. It requires urgent responses by
many different actors.
Established in 1993, the Cities for Climate ProtectionTM
(CCP) Campaign was developed by ICLEI –
Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) together with its members
as a framework for action. ICLEI strongly
believes that local governments can – and should - play an important role in
reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and adapting to a changing
climate. ICLEI’s approach
is unique with its focus on integrating
sustainability into decision-making and implementation processes, and in
local climate action.
