The Regional Bioenergy Centre is situated in South East Saxony in a very rural environment just at the border to Poland and Saxony. The Centre was formed by regional stakeholders from forestry and agriculture together with green investors. The Centres sees itself as driving force for the development of renewable energies particularly bioenergy in the region. The focus lies on wood chips, agricultural pellets and the development of biogas sites. The centre catches up with cutting edge developments in technology development and puts them into demonstration sites and dissemination activities in the region. Considerable knowledge is available on contracting schemes bringing in funding from green investment.
