General Info

The Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) is a self-owned, non-profit organisation that carries out research, analysis and development in three main sectors: nuclear technology, petroleum technology and other energy technologies.

Energy technologies include energy efficiency in industry, new renewable energy sources, systems analysis of future energy systems and technical and financial evaluation of existing energy systems, e.g. climate change mitigation projects.

Power systems based on renewable energy sources have a significant potential in developing countries. But also in industrialised countries, renewable energy systems can play a significant role - in particular where stand-alone systems are needed. IFE has developed a model that can be used to design local systems based on relevant renewable energy sources, hydrogen production and storage and production of power by using a fuel cell.

IFE plays a leading role in the Norwegian wind energy sector.

Target audience: Public as well as private sector. In Norway its clients include Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, as well as the Norwegian Pollution Control Authority. International clients include the UNDP, GEF, IFC, UN ECE, and the European Union.
