The main research topics of IER are:
- Analysis and assessment of new energy technologies and energy systems
- Technology assessment and environmental analysis
- Development of models and decision support systems for energy economics and energy policy
- Energy systems analysis
- Rational use of energy
IER conducts studies for policy decision making in the energy sector on local, regional, national and EU-level, as well as advisory studies for private customers and industries. The target audience for the research results include the interested public, as well as decision makers and stakeholders of various sectors in the energy business. The Bioenergy Information Centre (BIZ) promotes the implementation of bioenergy in Germany to planners and practitioners.
