BASE's mission is to promote and facilitate investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy to accelerate worldwide commercialization of sustainable energy and to contribute to global climate protection, poverty mitigation, and conflict prevention. As a UNEP Collaborating Centre, BASE serves as a link between developing and industrialized regions in the field of financing energy for sustainable development.

BASE is a partner in the UNEP Sustainable Energy Finance Initiative (SEFI) along with the UNEP Energy Branch and UNEP Finance Initiative.

BASE's main stakeholders are:

  • project developers seeking funding,
  • investors seeking profitable investment opportunities and
  • cooperation partners.

BASE's regional office in Germany operates under the name forseo GmbH.
