General Info

Örebro Region Energy Agency is a regional energy agency in central Sweden, and a unit within Örebro Regional Development Council. Its main objectives are to promote the efficient and sustainable use of energy and the production of renewable energy.

The prime objectives are:

  • to minimize the environmental effect from energy production and the use of energy in  Örebro region.
  • to increase the energy efficiency in society.
  • to contribute to the development and use of local energy sources in a sustainable way.
  • to help and support local decision-makers to develop suitable strategies.

Örebro Region Energy Agency is running a wide range of projects on energy and sustainability. Great emphasis is generally placed on information and the support of new networks. Some projects are pure inquiry commissions. Most of the funding comes from the Swedish Energy Agency, the Örebro County Administration and the municipalities in Örebro County. Some examples of projects are:

  • Energicentrum - an Energy Information Centre: The objectives are to awaken the interest in energy and sustainability issues among citizens, to provide unbiased energy advices, and to offer an opportunity to demonstrate or compare products.
  • Energy Advice for the Industry: There is a large potential for energy efficiency measures to be taken within the industry. The objectives of the project are to spread this information and to educate the municipal energy advisors in giving advices to the industry.
  • Energy-efficient transports: Transport is an important area to work with. Two completed projects are FLEAT (Fleet Environmental Action and Assessment - IEE) and a carpool project.
  • Biogas production - Farmers and municipalities in cooperation: The aim of the project is to study the possibilities for biogas production for fuel both technically and economically in five municipalities in Örebro County and to find farmers who are interested to deliver raw material to the biogas production

Örebro Region Energy Agency was originally founded in 1997 under the name ÖNET as a SAVE agency supported by the EU.
