Further Information
The Danish Technological Institute has been active in the field of energy technology
since 1926, and throughout the years the Institute's activities have reflected not only
technological developments but also the nation's energy policies as well. With its staff of
170 working in the area of energy, the Institute is the largest single Danish supplier of energy
know-how.
The main working area includes all activities in relation to rational use of energy and
energy conservation, energy efficiency, considering the supply side and the demand side as a
whole. The 170 employees of the Industry and Energy Division represent expertise in both the technical
and communication areas. The experience and expertise of Danish Technological Institute within
the area of energy covers the following fields:
Energy Planning: Practical knowledge of environmental laws and regulations on Climate
Change - Kyoto Protocol, Clean Development Mechanism, Join Implementation, Energy planning,
Structural analyses and set-up, International twining and networking structures, Energy
management, Energy efficiency schemes, Tariff studies, Master plans, Business plans,
Software development
Energy Production and renewable energy: Combustion technology, Natural gas and oil,
Environmental aspects, Energy in rural areas, Biomass energy technology, Solar energy
technology, Photovoltaic, heat pump technology.
Energy Distribution: District heating, Natural gas, Combined heat and power technology,
Installation, Metering and Calibration
Energy Consumption in Buildings: Energy auditing, Energy management, Energy efficiency,
Heating technology, Ventilation and air-conditioning, Low energy technology, Environment
Energy Consumption in Industry: Energy auditing, Energy management, Energy efficiency,
Control systems, Refrigeration, Ventilation, Combustion, Motors, Compressed Air, Pumps,
Process energy etc.
Energy Consumption in Transport: Auto and vehicle technology, Engine technology, Fuels
and lubricants, Engines and Engine servicing equipment, Vehicles, Garages, Transport
planning.
Energy technique: Development and implementation of overall concepts for energy
systems in urban areas. Energy and environmental planning. Energy management in service
and production facilities. Energy auditing. Development and establishment of consultant
schemes in the field of energy and the environment. Development and implementation of
components, methods and systems for low-energy buildings. Testing of boilers for gas, oil and
solid fuel in accordance to both Danish and international standards.
The Danish Technological Institute's Training Programme: Danish Technological Institute
has during the last 35 years carried out a comprehensive training programme. More than
17,000 are participating at these training courses every year. 11 times in the past last
12 years Danish Technological Institute has got the award as the best supplier of training
courses in Denmark - based on an investigation covering 600 Danish companies.
Renewable energy
Centre for Biomass Technology
Technical and economic assistance in relation to implementation and operation of biomass
technologies. Dissemination of knowledge, information, awareness creation, education,
training and consultancy on the utilisation of biofuels i.e. on cogeneration.
Solar Energy Centre Denmark. Solar Energy Centre Denmark serves as a comprehensive
collective platform for solar energy, helping to maximise the effectiveness of knowhow and
products in the international marketplace. Solar Energy Centre Denmark is the forum that
enables the planners and all sides of the industry to meet and co-operate. Until 2003
National Laboratory and Test Centre for Solar Heating and Photovoltaic. (until 2003) Testing
and approval of solar energy systems, research and development, demonstration projects,
consultancy services for manufacturers and planners, field measurements, quality assurance
programme for installation, national and international standardisation and norms work covering
domestic hot water systems, combined systems and photovoltaic.
National Laboratory and Test Centre for Biofuel Boilers - Wood Chips, Pellets, Straw, Grain
and Wood (until 2003) Testing and approval of biomass boilers, research and development, demonstration
projects, consultancy services for manufacturers and planners, field measurements, national and
international standardisation and norms work, quality assurance programme.
The Danish Renewable Energy Information Centre (until 1999) Promotion, awareness and
information activities on renewable energy, energy conservation and environmental issues.
The activities include consultancy on promotion, campaign design, information dissemination,
data collection, telephone hot-line service, preparation and publication of booklets, leaflets,
preparation of conferences, TV-spots, lectures, editing of magazines.
EC-OPET Centre - Energy Centre Denmark. Energy Centre Denmark (ECD) is an
OPET-Centre (Organisation for the Promotion of Energy Technologies). The OPET Network is an
initiative of the European Commission, which aims to disseminate information on, and promote
the benefits of energy technologies. These energy technologies cover among others rational
use of energy in industry, buildings and transport, solid fuels and hydrocarbons. ECD carries
out services covering a broad field of activities related to energy and environmental Studies in
Rural Energy and Information/Communication Technologies issues. In addition to this, ECD undertakes
a variety of tasks for the European Commission and the Danish administration. ECD possesses
comprehensive knowledge of the Danish and European energy policies as well as profound knowledge
of the relevant legislation and economy.
The target group for the energy products and services consists of manufacturers of energy-related
technical equipment, manufacturing companies, service organisations, utilities, and public authorities.
This target group demands service providers with internationally competitive professional skills,
and the provision of such high-quality services forms the basis of the earnings. Activities range
from advanced international development assignments to participation in standardisation projects and
to routine testing assignments.
