Further Information

The Wave Energy Centre is a non-profit organisation with the objective to support the development and implementation of Ocean Wave Energy. WEC was recently founded by 12 mainly Portuguese entities, in order to take on the challenge to utilise the large potential of ocean waves. The companies and institutions associated are either active in wave energy research or intend to partake in the future development.

The aim of the centre is to promote collaboration between companies, research centres, inventors and developing teams in view of the development, promotion and marketing of wave energy devices. In due time the centre may expand its activities to other forms of ocean energy, such as tidal stream and salinity gradient schemes.

Special effort is made to assist associate companies willing to initiate activities in wave energy in recognizing business opportunities, in defining their strategies and in identifying possible partners. The Associates of the Wave Energy Centre are predominantly Portuguese R+D units and companies, with the exception of Teamwork Technology from the Netherlands, who are the inventors of the Archimedes Wave Swing technology and were, together with Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon the driving force for the establishment of the centre.
