The 3-Liter-Haus has a heating energy need of 3 litres fuel oil or the appropriate quantity gas or firewood per square metre (heated gross floor area) per year. For a single family house with 130 m² living space: (approx. 155 m² gross floor area) this is: max. 468 litres fuel oil equivalent (with heater losses: 560 litres fuel oil equivalent), that are 560 litres fuel oil or 500 standard cubic meters gas or 3.70 space metres firewood (spruce) or 1.80 pouring space metres of pellets.
