The Forest Research Institute in Zvolen is a governmental research body subordinated to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Slovak Republic. It has four research stations throughout the country € in Banská Stiavnica, Gabcíkovo, Kosice, Liptovsky Hrádok.
The main objective of the Institute is to obtain new scientific knowledge on forest ecosystems and their management. To achieve this aim it undertakes research activities in the fields of biology, forest management, forest technology, economics and related areas.
The Institute's research and development programme is based on national and international projects, supplemented by contracts with domestic and foreign companies, as well as special activities charged by its founder.
