ISR-University of Coimbra's main areas of interest are:
ISR-UC is a research institute associated with the University of Coimbra, which has participated and coordinated several European projects in the area of energy efficiency, decentralized generation and RES, both in buildings and industry. ISR-UC has maintained a strong collaboration with the national utility - Electricidade de Portugal, being responsi-ble for the co-ordination of the first 'Least Cost Planning' project carried out in Portugal. ISR-UC has also been giving support to regional and local energy authorities and to national energy agency ADENE.
Recent work includes the coordination of several European projects on market transformation of electric motors and drives, local and regional energy planning, integrated resource planning in the electricity sector, distributed generation and space conditioning. ISR-UC has carried out a large number of training seminars and workshops to pro-mote energy-efficient technologies, namely in the area of electricity end-use efficiency. ISR-UC has experience in the preparation of brochures and leaflets concerning the efficient use of energy and renewable energies.
ISR-UC organized the international SAVE Conference "Energy Efficiency Improvements in Electric Motors and Drives", Lisbon, 29-31 October 1996, attended by 200 participants from 32 countries, and was the co-organizer of the 2nd International Conference "Energy Efficiency in Motor Driven Systems", London, 20-22 September 1999, and of the UIE2000 Conference "Electricity for Sustainable Urban Development", Lisbon, 1-4 November, 2000, Lisbon, with over 300 participants from 24 counties. In the last conference one of the key topics were the new technologies for CHP in the urban Environment.
