The Documentation and Information Centre was established as a unit of the
National Centre for Research in 1974 with legal deposit. It started its activities by
creating a specialized library. A few years later the Centre took on documentation activities
and presently uses microcomputers and micrographics to store and retrieve information.
Objectives:
- To make information available to researchers thorough use of modern techniques to
organize, classify, abstract and disseminate information.
- To publish information on reports, studies and research on Sudan including scientific
papers presented in conferences, as well as information on current research activities in
or about Sudan
- To link up with regional and international network in order to make information
available from relevant databanks
- To contribute towards formulating and developing a national information system and to
encourage cooperation and coordination among library and information services at the national level.
Main Functions of the Centre:
- To develop a specialized scientific library.
- To prepare specialized bibliographies in order to keep researchers informed of what is
published in their area of research
- To publish Sudan Science Abstracts which identifies, collects, abstracts, and indexes
Sudanese Scientific output, including studies and research on the Sudan.
- To publish the National Register of Current Research , which present information collected
on current research carried out or about the Sudan.
Target audience: Students 60%; Academics and Researchers 35%; Corporate Users 5%
