The Renewable Energy Department of PAS MEERI co-ordinates activities in the field of Polish geothermal resources’ assessment and development for direct heat use, balneology and agriculture purposes, essential for old wells utilisation and/or new wells localisation, geothermal plant concepts, evaluating Economic Viability of the geothermal and other renewable energy resource projects.

The scope of research conducted in the Renewable Energy Department encompasses complete projects from basic research to conceptual design and technical projects with feasibility studies to project execution including investor liason.
The Laboratory presents geothermal installations, environmentally friendly technological solutions from energy-saving building features and construction methods to equipment for water heating including heat pumps, photovoltaic cells, and a system for optimisation of a wind power station.
The Department is also a centre of geothermal and ecological education. There are organised meetings with different groups of recipients primarily representatives of the local government and students.
