The environmental organization WWF Greece is part of the international family of WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), which comprises 50 national organizations and fights for the protection of the environment in more than 100 countries. WWF Greece was founded in 1990 and it has the legal status of a Welfare Foundation.
The ultimate aim of WWF Greece is to maintain the rich biodiversity of Greece as an inextricable parameter of the Mediterranean, as well as, to prevent and eventually reverse environmental degradation and build a future where people live in harmony with nature.
Since its establishment, WWF Greece has carried out more than 70 action projects. These concern the sections of active protection and management of natural environment and also campaigns for information, public awareness and environmental education for children and adults. Moreover, the organization prepares interventions on critical environmental policy issues.
The central office of the organization is located in Athens. However, permanent groups and field actions exist in areas of ecological significance, i.e. the Forest of Dadia, the Lake Kerkini, the Prespa Lakes, the area of North Pindos and the island of Zakynthos (Zante).
