Energieagentur Obersteiermark (formerly Energieagentur Judenburg-Knittelfeld-Murau) was founded in 1998 within the SAVE II programme of DG XVII (now Energy & Transport DG). Until March 2001 it was supported, in addition to funding from local communities, by the state of Styria, the ministry for economics and the European Union.
Since March 2001 the energy agency has financed itself through projects and the yearly membership dues of the local communities.
The energy agency has a strong co-operation with national and international organisations. Apart from carrying out common projects with the other Styrian energy agencies, it works together with partners in Germany, Greece and Portugal.
