CIT (Centre for Internet Technologies) is a research group of the University of Sunderland's School of Computing and Technology. Supported by university and external research funding, it conducts research and development work into a wide range of internet technologies. Formerly the Centre for Electronic Commerce, it has a proven track record of applied research in electronic commerce, and it has established strong links with partners from industry, commerce and the public sector.
CIT's research activities are currently focussed on ontology based knowledge management systems, semantic web technologies and e-commerce transaction handling systems. It is also active in network systems research, including GRID computing and distributed systems. CIT is a partner in the FP6 STASIS project (034980).
CIT is actively involved in standardisation at a European level, through the work of the CEN/ISSS workshop: e-Business Board for European Standardisation. CIT manager Kevin Ginty is the Workshop Chair.
