ÖNET is a regional energy agency in Örebro county in central Sweden, and a unit within Örebro Regional Development Council. Its main objectives are to promote the efficient and sustainable use of energy and the production of renewable energy.

The prime objectives are:

• to minimize the environmental effect from energy production and the use of energy in the county of Örebro.
• to increase the energy efficiency in society.
• to stimulate the saving and economising of energy.
• to contribute to the development and use of local energy sources in a sustainable way.
• to help and support local decision-makers to develop suitable strategies.

ÖNET is running a wide range of projects on energy and sustainability. Great emphasis is generally placed on information and the support of new networks. Some projects are pure inquiry commissions. Most of the funding comes from the Swedish Energy Agency, the Örebro County Administration and the municipalities in Örebro County. Some examples of projects are:

• Energicentrum - an Energy Information Centre: The objectives are to awaken the interest in energy and sustainability issues among citizens, to provide unbiased energy advices, and to offer an opportunity to demonstrate or compare products.
• Better Energy Advice for the Industry: There is a large potential for energy efficiency measures to be taken within the industry. The objectives of the project are to spread this information and to educate the municipal energy advisors in giving advices to the industry.
• Modern Lighting: Modern lighting may halve the energy consumption for lighting. A pilot project was carried out to find methods for how to spread this information to real estate owners, and to stimulate them to make the necessary investments

ÖNET was founded in 1997 as a SAVE agency supported by the EU.
