Introduction: Seventh ManagEnergy Annual Conference on Local Energy Action

A summary of EUSEW 2008 events for Local Energy Actors can be found in the ManagEnergy December 2008 Newsletter.

The Seventh ManagEnergy Annual Conference on Local Energy Action takes place in the Charlemagne Building, Brussels from 29 January to 31 January 2008 as part of EUSEW 2008: The Second EU Sustainable Energy Week (www.eusew.eu).

We are pleased to announce that Andris Piebalgs, Energy Commissioner will participate in this ManagEnergy Plenary event, The Covenant of Mayors: The Contribution of Local Actors Towards a Sustainable Europe, along with Mayors from a number of European cities committed to local energy action and representives of sustainable energy actions in both Europe and the US.

Following on from the success of last year's Education conference, actors working on energy education initiatives will once again gather to gain more experiences regarding the drivers and barriers for undertaking successful projects in the ManagEnergy workshop, Energy education, bringing the energy awareness to schools. Further information can be found in the profiles of invited speakers for both the plenary and education events.

ManagEnergy is also organising its second Training Event for Energy Agency Directors during the week.

Under the umbrella of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign (SEE), the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy and Transport, the European Institutions, the Slovenian Presidency and major stakeholders concerned with sustainable energy are together putting on the second EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW). It will take place in Brussels, Belgium, and in other cities across Europe from Monday 28 January to Friday 1 February, 2008.

The EUSEW is the key reference for sustainable energy issues in Europe. The events organised during EUSEW cover key topics that highlight the multi-sectoral nature of sustainable energy development and stress the need for everyone to work together towards a common goal; from renewable energy sources to energy efficiency, from EU policy to local action, from distributed energy to planning, from technologies to markets, from legislation to behaviour to education, from buildings to transport.

In addition to the ManagEnergy Annual Conference events, which all take place in the Charlemagne Building, there are numerous events during EUSEW which will be of interest to local and regional energy actors. To assist you in identifying the events most likely to interest local and regional energy actors, a number of EUSEW events have been grouped together to form the Local Energy Actors Cluster. More information about these events, as well as additional information and services offered by ManagEnergy during the week is available in the Roadmap and Overview of the Local Energy Actors Cluster Events.
