Energy Performance of Buildings Directive: Next Steps
Thursday 31 January 2008 - EN DE FR
Programme

Event Organiser: European Commission Directorate-General for Energy & Transport and EPBD Buildings Platform

Reducing the energy use of buildings without compromising the indoor environment and services is the key challenge for Europe. The implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive provides Europe with tools for this.

The EPBD (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive) Platform is an information service for helping the implementation of the Buildings' Directive. This service is useful for practitioners and consultants, experts in energy agencies, interest groups and national policy makers in the 27 Member States.

Background
  • The building sector consumes 40% of the final energy in the EU. There is 28% cost-effective potential which can translate into reduction of 11% of the total EU final energy consumption
  • To reap this potential the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive was adopted in 2002
  • Still, there remains a considerable unutilized potential
  • The reinforcement of the EPBD is a strategic objective of the Commission for 2008
Scope
  • Announcement of DG TREN preliminary ideas for the strengthening of the EPBD
  • Initial consultation with the stakeholders
  • Current state of the play of the EPBD's implementation
Speakers/panel discussants
  • Officials from the European Commission, DG TREN and TAXUD
  • Representatives of national government - members of the Energy Demand Management Committee (Art 14)
  • Representatives of industry organizations, property owners and managers associations, energy agencies, banks, and consulting organizations
Target audience: National policy makers in the European Union Member States, property owners, industry representatives, practitioners and consultants, energy agencies, and banks.
