LOCAL MEDIA-CONFERENCES

In parallel with the Virtual Event, relevant organisations in the EU and Candidate countries organised 'media-conferences' at a local level, inviting local decision makers and/or final consumers to their premises to view the Virtual Event and participate in targeted discussions. Click here for further information on the local media-conferences organised in parallel with this conference, as well as details of how to host a media-conference.

BACKGROUND TO THE CONFERENCE

In total, 384 people attended the event in Brussels, a further 705 viewed the event online (requesting 2170 video clips), while others participated in an online chat to discuss the event and put questions to the speakers. Throughout Europe, people participated in local media-conferences organised in parallel with the main event. In addition, MEPs, Commissioners and other speakers were interviewed. Video recordings of the interviews and presentations are available on this website, along with the slides, proceedings, chat transcript, etc. EU Member States are committed to significantly increase their use of renewable energy sources by 2020. ManagEnergy will help achieve this by identifying good practice and sharing success stories through a network of local and regional energy agencies.

Local and regional energy agencies have extensive experience with and considerable knowledge of renewable energy projects and other activities that can be recognised as good practice. The annual conference focused on the management and organisation of such local and regional activities within the area of sustainable energy to assist in the replication of such successful projects.

The annual conference for year 2002 also focused on mechanisms whereby the efforts of those countries seeking to join the Union (Candidate Countries) can be integrated so as to reach a sustainable level of use of new sources of energy (wind, solar, biomass, wave) and increase the efficiency of use of conventional energy across Europe.

Over two days, 28-29 November 2002, these aspects, as well as more specific technical issues, were discussed in order to strengthen future strategies for local and regional agencies and to transfer the knowledge required to replicate good projects throughout Europe.
