The Energy & Transport DG of the European Commission and Agenzia per L'Energia e lo Sviluppo Sostenibile di Modena, invited ManagEnergy registrants to Modena on the 17th of October to 18th of October 2002 for this fourth ManagEnergy workshop.
A major conclusion of the Johannesburg World Summit was the key role assigned to local authority: responsibility on the implementation of the Kyoto protocol and in general on sustainable development is from now on shared by local and national bodies on an equal basis. Local authorities must now react to this challenge, and energy agencies dealing with local action are the key players for that. ManagEnergy intends to provide tools to comply with the new mandates, by means, among other things, of fostering initiatives allowing agencies to learn from each other and to replicate successful experiences. Good examples carried out at local and regional level by energy management agencies will be presented and also an overview of present and future European policy, programmes and directives regarding the building sector and peoples behaviour. Agencies having participated in this workshop or viewed the video-recordings should also be in a better position to give their feedback on such issues, prepare joint proposals to EU programmes and create partnerships for thematic activities.
The building sector has a great impact on the environment. The implementation of efficient technologies and products needs to be complemented by actions fostering an evolution towards responsible energy behaviour by the users in the transition to the sustainable society. By changing our behaviour, both in our day-to-day life and in professional situations, energy use can be rationalised.
Couldn't make the actual event? Then why not view the video recordings of this event. The workshop was transmitted on Internet with voice and picture presentation and it is was possible to participate in the workshop discussions on the web through an Internet Chat. For further details of the virtual services offered by ManagEnergy, past events and background information click here.
In parallel with the Virtual Event, relevant organisations in the EU and Candidate countries organised 'media-conferences' at a local level, inviting local decision makers and/or final consumers to their premises to view the Virtual Event and participate in targeted discussions.
Further information about organising a media-conferance can be found in the following report: Media-conferences: Local screening of virtual events.
