Organisation

The host of the workshop was the Province of Salerno. The workshop was organised by Directorate General for Energy and Transport of the European Commission (DG TREN), in collaboration with the Province of Salerno.

Objectives and Targets of the Event

Energy management agencies are the preferred partners for the European Commission in the implementation of the new programme Intelligent Energy - Europe.

ManagEnergy was pleased to invite all agencies interested in the new programme to participate on 26 September 2003 in the agency meeting organised to that effect. We thank the Province of Salerno for kindly hosting this agency event in Salerno, Italy.

Mr. Molina Igartua, Head of the Energy Demand Management Unit at DG TREN presented Intelligent Energy - Europe. This was followed by in-depth presentations and discussion on the different key actions covered in the first call.

Special attention was given to two key actions dedicated specifically for local actors:

"Think Globally, Act Locally" for the reinforcement of action at local level through the creation of thematic networks of agencies, organisation of training activities, operation of ManagEnergy, support to associations of agencies and creation of new agencies
"Strengthening the knowledge of local management agencies in the transport field" the European Commission wishes to support the training of agency staff in transport energy issues and to promote the sharing of experience and expertise in this field between agencies

A further aim of this meeting was to strengthen co-operation between agencies, helping to form partnerships
for the future. It also provided an opportunity to outline specific proposals in key actions of IEE included in the first call. The European Commission officials in charge of energy management agencies and STEER and the staff in charge of the operation of ManagEnergy were available for consultation and support throughout this event.

The working language was English.
