As the institutional representative of civil society, the European Economic and Social Committee joins efforts with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy to bring a citizens' perspective to the debate on CCS. All interested parties are therefore invited to attend this conference in order that their views can be gathered and conveyed to the EU decision-making institutions.

The Forum on Green Entrepreneurship is designed to empower young people and prepare them for the massive task of shifting our world from a state of crisis to prosperity and sufficiency. We are bringing together young people, entrepreneurs, policy makers, and stakeholders from the private sector and the academia to define the needs of young people and find innovative and relevant solutions.

The CONCERTO Final Forum will present the results that have been drawn from the experiences of the 58 European cities that implement the CONCERTO concept. The participants will be able to take the lessons home and implement similar actions in their cities. The sessions of the Forum will identify the solutions found for the challenges cities are facing today and propagate their European dimension and replication potential.

The CIP will come to an end in 2013 and the Commission services are currently elaborating actions and priorities to support the competitiveness of European businesses after 2013. In this conference, the Commission invites interested stakeholders, including representatives of business and innovation agencies, to express their views. A parallel exhibition will showcase the achievement of the CIP so far and allow participants to discuss policy orientations and available funding opportunities.

Biogas producers and distributors, gas industry specialists, policy makers, regulators and other stakeholders interested or involved in biogas production and upgrading to biomethane will focus on re-selling biomethane back into the natural gas pipeline network and identify the critical issues, possible strategies and next steps required to expand and mainstream the use of renewable biomethane for all gas-consuming sectors, including natural gas vehicles.

The Energy Efficiency Global Forum (EE Global) convenes energy efficiency leaders from around the world for a three-day conference to power the emerging clean-energy economy. Speakers and attendees – ranging from Members of the European Parliament to appliance manufacturers – share the latest industry trends in an effort to make energy efficiency the world's "first fuel."

The food/drinks, chemical and paper sectors have traditionally been users of cogeneration and represent companies that need a substantial amount of high temperature heat or steam and electricity in their industrial processes. The organisers will explore the potential for expanding the penetration of cogeneration in their sector, present innovative best practice experiences, identify critical factors for investments and come up with recommendations to improve the EU regulatory framework.

The Pact of Islands is the political commitment of insular communities to developing Local Sustainable Energy Action Plans and identifying bankable green projects with the aim of meeting or exceeding the EU sustainability targets for 2020. 19 island authorities have committed to signing the Pact of Islands. Many more will come to Brussels and sign on the 12th of April 2011 and thus indicate the commitment of their communities to help achieve the 20-20-20 objectives of the European Union.

On the 10th of July, the European Commission arranges a launch conference for presenting the newly adopted Communication on the Smart Cities & Communities Initiative. The Communication will set a reinforced EU policy framework across the three sectors in support of sustainable urban development. 18 months after the Great East Japan Earthquake, Japan like the rest of the world is facing a set of challenges if it is to have a low-carbon future. At this crucial time in the fight against climate change, the European Islands have a key role to play in developing sustainable energy action plans. 62 Island Authorities from the 11 participating groups of European Islands in ISLE-PACT have already signed the Pact of Islands. 52 ISEAPs produced during the life of the project indicate that the European islands have the potential to reduce CO2 emission by more than 18 million tons per year. This is equivalent to 31% of the emissions of Denmark.

The Covenant of Mayors office is organising a webinar on Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) for Covenant Signatories, Supporters and Coordinators. Roman Doubrava, Policy Officer at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy, will present the recently launched EPC campaign that builds on the Energy Efficiency Directive adopted some weeks ago. This webinar is the first in a series of online seminars on EPC to be organised by the Covenant of Mayors Office.

Effective tools for Sustainable Mobility Policy The fourth edition of the Belgian Inspiration Meeting Mobility Management takes place in cooperation with Eltis, the portal for urban mobility. The focus of the meeting this year is the importance of effective tools for a sustainable local mobility policy in cities and towns. The emphasis is on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) as planning approach and in particular on an exchange of good examples of sustainable mobility planning.

EUFORES has conducted a Europe-wide survey on the implementation of the action plans in the EU Member States and thereby collected a valuable feedback from the markets. The survey as well as this event is part of the IEE project "Energy Efficiency Watch", of which EUFORES is the coordinator.This event will present the survey results which will outline the status of the implementation of energy efficiency policies in the EU.

The Conference aims to spread knowledge and experience on tried-and tested methods of reducing the energy consumption of households in European islands. The ultimate goal of the event is to implement awareness raising campaigns addressed to households in at least 4 further European islands, starting from June 2013. In this context, the project will select and invite 20 experts to the event coming from at least 10 different islands. An Expression of Interest can be filled in by 15 February 2013.

This event gives an opportunity to learn about the experiences and results from the 50/50 concept, which is an innovative and successful energy saving scheme applied in schools and public buildings. The 50/50 concept was tested and rolled out to 9 countries within the framework of the Euronet 50/50 project that is starting now into its second round. 50/50 smartly provides a solution to the split incentive barrier and builds capacity of public building users to save energy.
