The biogas sector is growing rapidly and is certainly the most promising one; it will strongly contribute to the 3*20% targets defined by the European Union. The mobilisation of positive synergies between the different sectors (local authorities, farmers and food processing industries) and their concrete project implication will increase biogas plants realisation.

This half-day Replication Workshop takes place in Brussels during the Open Days. The workshop will give European regions with a focus on developing sustainable energy action plans a unique opportunity to exchange experiences with some of the leading European regions. Workshop on boosting regional competitiveness through sustainable energy
Co-organised by the European Commission's Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI) and the Directorate-General for Regional Policy (DG Regio), this workshop aims to demonstrate how IEE projects can prepare the ground and support the deployment of structural funds towards sustainable energy communities/regions. It will also address how structural funds and IEE projects can complement each other and work towards the same targets for increasing competitiveness in the regions.

Brokerage event in the field of Energy Technologies with a focus on the SET-Plan priorities
Under the 7th Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development and Demonstration (FP7), DG ENER published on 20 July 2010 a call for proposals opening several topics to support the SET-Plan European Industrial Initiatives. The Energy National Contact Points organise on 17 November 2010 a Brokerage Event in Brussels, for triggering partnerships of entities intending to submit a proposal. As the institutional representative of civil society, the European Economic and Social Committee joins efforts with the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy to bring a citizens' perspective to the debate on CCS. The Road Show will present a range of zero carbon and sustainable energy scenarios to researchers, policy makers and NGOs. The aim is to spur discussion and debate on how greenhouse-gas emissions could be eliminated completely from a long-industrialized society. Public conference on the future of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP)
The CIP will come to an end in 2013 and the Commission services are currently elaborating actions and priorities to support the competitiveness of European businesses after 2013. In this conference, the Commission invites interested stakeholders, including representatives of business and innovation agencies, to express their views. A parallel exhibition will showcase the achievement of the CIP so far and allow participants to discuss policy orientations and available funding opportunities.

Renewable Biomethane: Opportunities, Challenges & Strategies for Greening the Gas Grid
Biogas producers and distributors, gas industry specialists, policy makers, regulators and other stakeholders interested or involved in biogas production and upgrading to biomethane will focus on re-selling biomethane back into the natural gas pipeline network and identify the critical issues, possible strategies and next steps required to expand and mainstream the use of renewable biomethane for all gas-consuming sectors, including natural gas vehicles.

The European cogeneration sector is playing a key role in reaching the EU energy efficiency target of 20% in 2020. The food/drinks, chemical and paper sectors have traditionally been users of cogeneration and represent companies that need a substantial amount of high temperature heat or steam and electricity in their industrial processes. The organisers will explore the potential for expanding the penetration of cogeneration in their sector, present innovative best practice experiences, identify critical factors for investments and come up with recommendations to improve the EU regulatory framework.

The Pact of Islands is the political commitment of insular communities to developing Local Sustainable Energy Action Plans and identifying bankable green projects with the aim of meeting or exceeding the EU sustainability targets for 2020. 19 island authorities have committed to signing the Pact of Islands. Many more will come to Brussels and sign on the 12th of April 2011 and thus indicate the commitment of their communities to help achieve the 20-20-20 objectives of the European Union.
