The National Working Group of Coordinators and Supporters for the Covenant of Mayors in Greece is holding a workshop focusing on nearly Zero Energy Buildings. Main topic is how to empower local authorities to mainstream nZEB practice and integrate it in Sustainable Energy Action Plans, as foreseen in the IEE project AIDA_Affirmative Integrated Energy Design Action. Experiences from ongoing activities and strategies for sustainable energy development in the time of crisis will be discussed.

Local energy stakeholders have varied interests at stake when selecting low-carbon technologies for implementation. Nevertheless, the multiple, often conflicting views of stakeholders have to be considered in energy planning and decision making. Also, it is equally important to prioritize low-carbon energy technology options, particularly in formulating Sustainable Energy Action Plans. All these are crucial to reach a consensus, establish legitimacy, and carry out a participatory process.
After one year off, the French RES league is back ! Cities and towns can update their RES data until 07/01/2014 and register to this friendly and positive competition. 12 winners will be awarded during a filmed ceremony in three categories: general, electricity and heat rankings; and four divisions: general, small, medium and large towns.

The CASCADE IEE project is organising a workshop on local energy leadership in Burgas, Bulgaria, on 28 January 2014, during the ‘energy management in municipalities’ national seminar. The City of Burgas will present the CASCADE project and its peer-to-peer learning methodology. Wednesday 22th January 2014 in Bolzano, there will be the 6th Italian Study Tours to present the AIDA project and two nZEBs realized. During the days of the ‘KlimaHouse 2014’ fair, EURAC, in collaboration with TIS, organize two study tours to visit Pillon’s house at Caldaro (ClimaHouse Gold and Passive House certification) and CasaSalute at Magrè (CasaClima Gold Nature).
AIDA is a project funded by Intelligent Energy Europe with a view to supporting building professionals and local authorities in the designing and implementation of nZEB’s (nearly Zero Energy Buildings). Through a series of study tours, sustainable policies and web-based BIM (Building Information Modelling) software; the AIDA project aims to increase the number of nZEB buildings throughout Europe and the number of building professionals and municipalities trained on integrated energy design.

5th Energy Efficiency Forum and Fair is the most important event of the year and visited by great numbers of attendees. This is the perfect place where thousands of industry professionals converge to network, to get new ideas, to view new products and services, and explore mutually beneficial business relationships.
"CONURBANT" is facing the last part of its project life, so the attention is focused on SEAPs implementation. This workgroup+forum gives to the Municipalities of Vicenza and Padova the chance to meet their conurbation and province towns in a very practical and technical full immersion day. They will compare and join their plans on sustainable energies. All Municipalities are invited to participate with a politician and a technician, with their master plan on one hand and their SEAP on the other.

WHO/Europe’s HEAT for walking and cycling is an online resource to estimate the economic savings resulting from reductions in mortality as a consequence of regular cycling or walking: www.heatwalkingcycling.org. Results from HEAT can be used as inputs to cost-benefit-analyses, comprehensive health impact assessments or to make the case for new investment. Over 400 people have participated in the trainings so far and HEAT has been used over 20,000 times since its launch in 2011.
CASCADE IEE project, in cooperation with the Greek Centre of Renewable Energy Sources and Saving, is organising a seminar on sustainable energy in local government in Athens, Greece, on 6 December 2013. The participants will learn about the CASCADE peer-to-peer learning methodology and how it helped cities to improve their local energy policies. In addition, they will gain new knowledge and ideas on how to improve energy efficiency and increase the share of renewable energy in their cities.
