With increasing energy prices, dependency on fuel supplies from unstable regions and problems in agriculture, the energy independence of municipalities and regions generates multiple benefits. Energy independence also contributes to environment protection and energy safety. Specific examples from the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria will provide illustrative case studies . Representatives of these municipalities and regions will present their approaches to decreasing energy dependency.

The event provides the possibility for 18 local municipalities of the South Transdanubian Region of Hungary to join the Covenant of Mayors initiative. These settlements undertake to contribute to the achievement of the goals of the EU2020 strategy by reducing their CO2 emissions by at least 20% until 2020. During the workshop experts will present the benefits of the adhesion, and highlight the duties of the municipalities regarding the compilation of the Baseline Emission Inventory and SEAP.

Regions and municipalities play a key role in the development of renewable energy. As a major energy consumer, a planning and approval body, a property owner and an example for citizens, they have significant influence on the supply of energy. In the area of municipal conferences, the ‚100% Renewable Energy Regions‘ congress series is unique. Ecobouwers Opendeur - visit today the houses of tomorrow - is a Doors Open Days event taking place in the weekends of 1, 2, 3 and 9, 10, 11 November in Flanders and Brussels. You get get non-commercial hands-on-experience with nearly zero energy buildings. During a visit, you will get to know the living, working and building experiences of the owners and builders. Visits are free but subscription on the website is mandatory. Visit more than 150 houses.
