SusDev News is published six times each year. The newsletter presents the concrete achievements of research and demonstration projects in the field of sustainable development, and the approaches, tools and technologies which they have developed to support policy-making and new strategy implementation at local, regional, national and international levels. The main focus will be on the research undertaken by the Key Action "City of Tomorrow and Cultural Heritage" under the 5th framework programme of the EU as well as the research on sustainable development and land use funded under the 5th and 6th Framework Programmes.

The Alliance to Save Energy website contains information on energy efficiency and major energy and environmental issues from climate change to the utility industry. Bioenergy International is a new media product. The web version of the Bioenergy International consists of three sections:

1. the EDITORIAL: All information has passed through our editors and the language is English.
2. the CONNECTION: The information is published directly from the provider to the reader. The Editorial team do not take any responsibility for the content of that information. The two advantages are that the information is published immediately after it has been written. The other is that it is possible to publish information in several common languages.
3. the SPECIAL SECTION: consists of special topics including facts, photo archive, AEBIOM information and Country reports
   The Bioenergy International is also published on paper and distributed to subscribers, members of Bioenergy Associations all over the world and on exhibitions and conferences.

www.bioenergy-info.com is a digital library about bioenergy and was developed in the framework of the North Sea Bio Energy project (see www.northseabioenergy.org). The library gives an extensive overview of online information resources concerning small-scale bioenergy production.

The BioMatNet website makes available results of RTD projects supported by the European Commission in the area of Biological Materials for Non-Food Products (Renewable Bioproducts). It includes final results from bioenergy projects in the FAIR, JOULE and THERMIE Programmes (FP4) and reports of ongoing research from the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5) Quality of Life Programme, Key Action 5. Results from AIR (FP3) and ECLAIR (FP2), as well as other information collected under previous activities, are also included.

The CADDET website is a unique source of global information on proven, commercial applications covering the full range of energy-saving and renewable energy technologies. It includes links to the CADDET project database, with details of over 2000 international applications of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. You can download the CADDET InfoPoint Newsletter and case studies of particularly topical or successful projects (both as PDFs) from the website. The site also includes News, Events, the CADDET forum and links to other energy sites.

The CADDET Programme concluded in March 2005 but this web site will remain live to provide access to the wide range of information collected since 1988.

CDM Monitor is Point Carbon’s monthly publication (first edition June 2003) providing news, views and analysis of the emerging market for certified emissions reductions (CERs). Several proactive companies in the CDM market have teamed up with us to provide high-quality data, information and comments about CDM-related issues. It will be available free of charge for a trial period.

CEMR works with the European Commission to promote sustainable energy policies.

The clearcontract website aims to be a one-stop-shop for energy contracting in Central and Eastern Europe. As well as background information about the project, the website includes specific information that is relevant for energy contracting projects in a particular country, including:

• Country profiles cover market and legal aspects as well as administrative and capacity related issues.
  
• Model contract is a standard contract for energy contracting projects adapted to the laws of the respective country in which they are to be applied.
  
• Current projects are those projects which are being prepared for a tendering procedure – your chance to enter the market.

Community Action for Energy (CAfE) is a national programme from the Energy Saving Trust to promote community-led sustainable energy projects. They provide information, training and support to help communities set up and run successful energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

Construct Ireland is a national periodical magazine promoting the case for Sustainable Development in Ireland. Covering areas such as Renewable Energy, Conservation and Construction Safety Issues, Construct Ireland aims to inform its readers of progressive techniques and technologies and to lobby Industry and Government for their implementation.

The EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is a management tool for companies and other organisations to evaluate, report and improve their environmental performance. The scheme has been available for participation by companies since 1995 (Council Regulation (EEC) No 1836/93 of 29 June 1993).

EnerBuild RTD is the Energy, Environment & Sustainable Development Thematic Network on Energy in the Built Environment. The site includes Newsletters, Papers & Posters, Leaflets, Research Projects, a Virtual Bookcase and information relating to Thematic Groups, such as:

The energies-renouvelables site of the Fondation energies pour le monde includes links to a number of renewable energy resources (in French).

ENER-IURE is a long term project with the support of the Altener Programme. The website includes a database containing most of the legislation affecting Renewable Energy Sources in each country of the European Union. The legislation of different Member States is studied focusing on four main aspects: Finance, Electricity, Planning and Agriculture.

EEBPp is a UK Government programme designed to provide free information to organisations to help them cut their energy bills. EEBPp promotes best practice through free publications and events, and encourages action with advice and support at every stage from planning to design, implementation and management. It also supports R&D on energy efficiency.

The EnergyOffice website is an Internet Community for Cost-Free Energy Savings in Office Buildings. Sections include: Intro & News; Campaigns; Cost-free Measures; Media; Tools; Newsletter; Forum.

The EPBD Platform is an information service for helping the implementation of the Buildings' Directive. This service is useful for practitioners and consultants, experts in energy agencies, interest groups and national policy makers in the 27 Member States.

The EnergyPromotion.net website includes links to energy industry reports including free public-domain reports.

energy-server.com contains information in English and German on renewable energy and energy-efficient construction. The site includes a regular electronic newsletter.

In addition to a database of European organisations operating in various energy fields, the EnerWeb site also includes:

EREC is an umbrella organisation of the leading European renewable energy industry and research associations active in the sectors of photovoltaic, wind, small hydropower, biomass and solar thermal. The EREC website contains publications, project details, events and details of renewable energy resources in Europe.

EuroComEner is a website providing tools and methodology on effective communication and dissemination of energy information aimed at Energy Agencies.

The European Climate Menu (ECM) website offers information on the ECM project and is used as a means of contact and information sharing between the partners of the project.
   A new web tool, launched in June 2004, helps local authorities discuss and develop climate policies. The tool is designed as an online table, which a local authority can use to indicate its ambition within several different climate policy themes. The tool will generate reports of the current situation and the desired outcome, which will then form the basis of a local policy plan. The tool is supported by the Altener programme.

The eceee (European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy) is a non-profit, independent organisation founded in 1993. Its goal is to stimulate energy efficiency through information exchange and pan-European co-operation. The members consist of policy makers, energy practitioners, NGO representatives and researchers involved in the study or promotion of energy efficiency.

EuroREX is devoted to the promotion of renewable energy in Europe. EuroREX provides commercial, investment, export, country and technology information with up-to-date news on sustainable and alternative energy developments in Europe and the rest of the world, all available from the EuroREX search page, with links to the main renewable Trade Associations. The EuroREX services are divided into 3 levels:

The EWEN website has been designed to provide information to a broad audience of developers, potential investors, planners, RTD decision makers, politicians and the general public. The information presented constitutes a comprehensive review of technologies relevant to the Wave Energy field and gives an up to date overview of on going activities as well as other general information. The Future Energies website is run by a UK-based enthusiast and contains global news articles discussing the alternatives to fossil fuels and how overall energy consumption and carbon dioxide levels can be reduced.

The GasNet Website - - is designed and constructed for all researchers, developers and implementers of biomass gasification
Information is provided on the technology, its application and specific topics. GasNet is funded by Energy & Transport DG.

The Green Portal connects and aligns people from various manufacturing, engineering, scientific, government, investment and public policy organizations in a secure web portal outside of their organization’s IT infrastructure as a way to enable inter-enterprise collaboration, relationship building, knowledge sharing, project management and group learning.
   This collaborative platform and toolkit is modelled on Michael Porter's Cluster Network concepts to support decentralized, peer-to-peer process and project management to advance the inter-enterprise and cross-sector collaboration that is required to start-up and manage sustainable business initiatives.
   Portal groups include distributed energy, point of use biopower, LFG to Methanol, wind power, biomass processing, bioremediation, emissions management, waste recovery, green credits trading, waste water treatment and other sectors of renewable energy and green technology.

GreenPrices aims at stimulating renewable energy by giving clear information about the market for green energy to:

The GREENTIE website is an international directory of suppliers whose technologies help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. GREENTIE also provides information on funding and on leading international organisations and IEA programmes whose RD&D and information activities centre around clean energy technologies.

The GREENTIE Programme ceased collecting new information in April 2005. The website remains available as a store of the information collected by the programme.  Discussions concerning the future of the IEA EETIC Implementing Agreement (GREENTIE's parent) are ongoing - please visit www.eetic.org for the latest information.

Work in IEA Bioenergy is carried out through a series of Tasks, each having a defined work programme. Most tasks have a common duration of three years. Each task is led by one of the participating countries (Operating Agent, OA) with technical effort coordinated by a Task Leader (see contacts below). For the period 2001-2003, the work is structured into twelve Tasks.

This educational website was developed through the work of IEA Bioenergy Task 29: Socio-economic Drivers in Implementing Bioenergy Projects, and is meant as a source of information about biomass and bioenergy for the general public.

InfoPower is a monthly publication on efficient production and use of energy. The website contains electronic versions in English and Spanish.

solar-b2b.com (for solar energy, formerly www.international.solar-contact.com) and energy4tomorrow (for the other renewable energy technologies) list companies or organisations active in the Renewables Sector with easy-to-use menus and integrated search functions. You can advertise and/or list your organisation for free.

The Portal das Energias Renováveis aims at the promotion and dissemination of the RE within the Portuguese speaking world.

PREDAC is a project which aims at promoting local development of renewable energies and energy efficiency in Europe. This is achieved by the action of 11 thematic working groups, including BioClimatic buildings, thermal solar, photovoltaics, small hydropower and wind as well as the functioning of local energy information centres. Databases include:

• the "on-line library" area

PROMISE has the following main objectives:

• to find ways of reducing energy costs for municipalities and thus reducing the negative environmental impacts of energy consumption;
• to develop approaches and tools for local municipality staff to integrate Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and the Rational Use of Energy (RUE) into public procurement processes;
• to train local staff and carry out pilot projects that demonstrate procurement of RES and RUE.

PyNe - The Biomass Pyrolysis Network - is a global network of active researchers and developers of fast pyrolysis of biomass. It has been established to discuss and exchange information on scientific and technological developments on biomass pyrolysis and related technologies for the production of liquid fuels, electricity and chemicals. PyNe is funded by IEA Bioenergy and Energy & Transport DG.

The objective of the RENEUER Network is to promote the creation of favorable investment climate and market conditions for implementation of projects for energy and water efficiency improvement in support the efforts of the Southeast European countries.

The Renewbable Energy Centre website aims to provide:

• a practical and easy-to-understand introduction to renewable energy technologies

The RETScreen International Clean Energy Project Analysis Software is a unique decision support tool developed with the contribution of numerous experts from government, industry, and academia. The software, provided free-of-charge, can be used world-wide to evaluate the energy production, life-cycle costs and greenhouse gas emission reductions for various types of energy efficient and renewable energy technologies (RETs). The software also includes product, cost and weather databases; and a detailed online user manual.

The Sustainable Development Information website includes a forum (established in August 2004) which aims to 'facilitate the dissemination of information regarding sustainable development and its associated topics'.

The Sustainable Energy Europe 2005-2008 Campaign website contains information about all aspects of the Campaign, including legislative background, objectives, planned support actions and information on how to join the Campaign. During 2005, the site will be substantially expanded to include a presentation of the Campaign in the official languages of the European Union, as well as further information, tools and services for main energy actors, media services and the general public.

The Target Energy Services website includes a tool for Benchmark your building. It allows you to rate your building's annual energy costs against UK national energy benchmarks. You need to provide information about building floor area and annual energy cost or energy use.
