European Parliament backs energy efficiency target for 2030
09 Apr 2013
The report encourages the Commission to explore a combined ‘high renewables and high energy efficiency’ scenario in developing post-2020 policies. The report recognises the importance of CO2 capture and storage (CCS) in low emission electricity production in the future energy mix and stresses the need for commercial-scale deployment.
Other highlights include the report’s conclusion that ‘the current rate of building renovation needs to be substantially scaled up’, also that ‘awareness-raising campaigns and energy efficiency be integrated into national educational curricula’. Furthermore, Member States are encouraged to create platforms to ‘support exchanges of best practice’.
