Case Study: Traffic Reduction Municipality - Langenlois, Austria

View the Case Study

Synopsis

The four-year model project "Langenlois Traffic Reduction Community", was developed within the framework of the Lower Austrian State Transport concept in 1999. It aims at the voluntary renunciation of car rides which can easily be replaced by more environmentally-friendly means of transport. Various well co-ordinated and inexpensive measures propagate such forms and demonstrate their advantages for the individual as well as the community. The "Traffic Reduction Community" is a long-term project that gradually but lastingly shapes the life of the community. The organisation of the project, the strategies of motivation as well as the well co-ordinated measures, are designed to have a long lasting effect. The projects success lay in its conscious and imaginative foundation which, together with the steps taken and the public's contribution, came into being.
