Synopsis
The city of Lausanne is generally very involved in the management of its citizen's transport issues. In particular in 1996 the city adopted a Communal Planning Directive (Plan Directeur Communal, PDC) in which the section dealing with transport aims at encouraging journeys on foot, by public transport and by bicycle. In order to respond to user demand, to promote unmotorised transport and to put favourable planning measures into place, the municipality created two new positions:
These two representatives work with a support group (pedestrian support, "groupe suivi-piétons" and light two wheeled vehicles, "groupe Deux-Roues Légers" ) and with the various communal administration departments concerned. The representatives also serve as intermediaries between citizens and the communal authorities. The City of Lausanne's website has pages promoting cycling and walking, and provides a link with residents (information, email address etc).
Target groups: all citizens
Fields: walking / pedestrians - cycling - integrated approach / urban transport plans
