Synopsis
The priorities of the municipality of Montreuil's transport policy are the development of intermodality and of the use of modes of transport that cause less pollution than private vehicles. As part of this policy a transport plan for municipal employees is in place since June 2001. An "Administration Transport Plan" (Plan de Déplacement de l'administration - PDA) is a tool that is conceived, set up and used by an organism (public or private) to rationalise and improve the transport of its employees, for both home to work journeys and journeys whilst at work. The municipality of Montreuil initiated such a plan in June 2001. The plan is part of the municipality's general policy of improving the quality of life in Montreuil. The main objective is to reduce car traffic, and the resulting pollution, by encouraging alternative modes of transport such as collective transport (public transport and car-pooling), cycling and walking. The first phase of the project started in September 2000 as part of that year's car free day with an awareness campaign aimed at businesses on the theme of employee transport and its effect on the urban environment. This was followed by a transport survey of twelve companies with a view to analysing in detail the issues involved and the needs of the employees. Recommendations were made based on the results of the survey.
