Synopsis
Fifteen kilometres away from downtown Málaga, the Technology Park of Andalucía (PTA) includes over 180 companies and 2,800 employees. It is situated close to the University of Málaga, with its 40,000 students. Since most employees and students travel to and from work/classes by car, this constellation leads to important traffic jams, especially during rush hours. Moreover, the fast increase expected in the number of PTA's employees will undoubtedly worsen the situation.
In order to tackle this problem, the PTA decided to join the MOST (Mobility Management Strategies for the Next Decades) project, and benefit from the chance offered by such a Park to bring together an important number of companies and workers to co-ordinate mobility management activities.
In order to meet the aims set at the beginning of the project, the PTA formed a central mobility office and appointed a mobility co-ordinator, responsible for planning, implementing, marketing and assessing the mobility management services that were to be introduced.
The measures that were implemented during MOST were chosen based on the analysis of two surveys, sent both to employees of the PTA and students of the close-by University. An important marketing campaign, including distribution of leaflets for students and employees, mailings to the employees, an Internet-based information system, and start packages for new companies, was also developed to support the implemented measures and lead to a change in employees' travel behaviour. Additionally, informative meetings have been set up; one at the beginning of the project and another after setting up the new bus line.
The Technology Park of Andalucía is undertaking an important media campaign in order to inform not only the workers and students of PTA about the project, but also the population in general.
