Synopsis
The city of Terrassa, situated on the northern limit of the Barcelona metropolitan system , with a population of 180,000 inhabitants and a strong industrial character, is currently undergoing a major growth process, both in population and socially. For the last two years, the city has been involved in a parallel planning process including environmental aspects (Environmental Plan), urban development (review of the General Plan), accessibility (Accessibility Plan), business (Business Equipment Plan) and mobility (Master Mobility Plan).
The final Master Mobility Plan includes 18 principles and objectives, all of them aiming at making mobility a fundamental element in the planning process of the city, promoting a sustainable and reasonable model for each of the city's suburbs and for the city as a whole, developing priority areas for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as the least pollutant modes of transport. All aspects of mobility have been taken into account: urban and regional development, obligatory and non-obligatory mobility, traffic, public transport, parking, goods distribution and business activities, pedestrians, bicycles and the environment. The final proposal consists of a molecular city model, which reinforces the city's centrality as well as the smaller centralities of the suburbs, connecting them by means of pedestrian and cycle routes. Each neighbourhood of the city will be designed as 30 km/h zone, enabling car-bicycle cohabitation. The Plan reflects a strong bet on public transport and intermodality with interurban railways.
It was also considered very important to define environmental indicators and a mobility civic forum to supervise the efficient development of this Master Mobility Plan.
Target groups: all citizens
