View the Case Study
Synopsis
The Urban Transport Plan (Plan de Déplacements Urbains - PDU) of the Urban Community of
Dunkerque(Communauté Urbaine de Dunkerque - CUD) lists the following commitments as part of its
project of sustainable development within the urban area (Projet d'Agglomération):
- to ensure the transport of people and goods necessary for the development of the urban area (as a
port and in terms of industry, business and tourism) whilst at the same time reducing pollution from traffic
and preserving the environment,
- to develop a town that is pleasant to live and travel in by re-vitalising such modes of transport as
walking and cycling, improving the quality and increasing the use of public transport, making the city centre
and the various facilities easily accessible and improving passenger safety. The initiative will be supported
by the "Highways Charter" and a "Two-Wheel" Campaign.
- to satisfy the provisions of the Law on Air and Rational Use of Energy (LAURE) and the Solidarity
and Urban Renewal (SRU) Law for the improvement of traffic safety and the reduction of traffic flow.
These provisions reinforce the recommendations of the PRQA (Regional Plan for Air Quality) and the
PPA (Plan for the Protection of the Atmosphere).
Finally, the initiatives of the PDU and of the Territorial Cohesion Plan (Schéma de Cohérence
Territoriale - SCOT) must be implemented in a consistent manner.
