View the Case Study

Synopsis

For several years now the city of Valencia has been committed to a policy of sustainable development, including new lines of work such as "Valencia Innova" (Valencia Innovates) - which aims to improve municipal management and citizens' quality of life through innovation projects applied to urban management - and "Valencia Verde" (Green Valencia) - the aims of which are alternative energy saving and energy source diversification to achieve sustainable transport. It is in the scope of these projects, with finance from the European Union under the ERDF programme 2000-2006, that the purchase of four 6m and six 12m hybrid buses was proposed for use in the historic centre of Valencia. In the practical application of the project, a diesel engine running at constant speed is used to recharge each vehicle's batteries.
