Summary
EffCoBuild wants to overcome existing barriers and promote energy saving measures in the building sector on a community level. By involving and connecting the different stakeholders - such as building owners, administration entities, financing institutes, private companies and regional politicians - the joint economic and environmental interests will be bundled. In order to demonstrate how communities can enhance energy efficiency, the saving potentials in the buildings sector of four participating communities from Austria, Germany, Slovakia and Slovenia have been identified. Based on the results of these investigations a tailor-made concept of measures for the particular community is now under development. In the following the realisation of some of the identified measures will be started. The project is supported by the Intelligent Energy - Europe programme as well as by several national and local public authorities in the participating countries.
Results
The results of EffCoBuild will raize the awareness among citizens and stakeholders about energy efficiency measures in the building sector as an important step toward a sustainable energy supply. The project will also show a large number of measures and actions that can be set by the community actors themselves. Energy efficiency measures provide a positive impulse for the regional economic development and employment situation by the added value kept in the region.
The communities received (resp. will receive) a detailed analysis of the energy saving potentials for its buildings, a concept of measures for enhanced exploitation of the potentials, a "best of" brochure with examples from the own region and examples from €abroad€. Also, a pilot project will be implemented in each community. This will launch the implementation of the concept of measures as well as the development towards an energy efficiency region in the building sector.
The pilot communities serve as a role model for the surrounding regions as well as for communities in other European countries.
