The UK Environmental Research Institute is looking for partners for an IEE project. The project aims to develop support, advice and education for the typical small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) found in peripheral or isolated regions, for the local authorities and for the public. This advice will designed to promote opportunities to gain local benefit as many large scale schemes that exploit resources (such as onshore wind farms) provide limited long term benefit to the local community and are therefore often subject to local opposition at the planning stage. To achieve local benefit there will be a need to adopt an intelligent energy approach and link local energy efficiency initiatives, the exploitation of local renewable energy resources and initiatives to reduce fossil fuel consumption by transport.
