Summary

The first Energy Efficiency Week is the first initiative of its kind that took place in Brasov. It is a method to promote energy efficiency and to raise awareness. The event took place in 10th-14th October 2005.

The events of this week have been targeted to a large variety of stakeholders: teachers, pupils, citizens, local administration, governmental representatives as well as other local, national and international actors in the energy efficiency field:

• The 10th-11th October 2005 - were the launching dates of Display Campaign.
• On 12th October 2005 the first Energy Info Point in Romania was launched.
• On 13th-14th October 2005 the first Romanian BISE Forum in Romania took place at Brasov.
• The three activities merged into a single large scale event that aimed at introducing and promoting energy efficiency measures and initiatives to various public categories in Brasov.

Results

The events in the Energy Efficiency Week were very visible to the general public and the specific audience targeted by each event. A total of around 500 people attended the week long events.

The "Display" campaign was a success in Brasov. The work done in the project received European recognition as the Brasov "Display" campaign was awarded the second prize, in the Display Towards Class A award ceremony that took place 26 October in Riga (Latvia).

The Energy InfoPoint cannot be presented as a success story. The response of the public was not as expected and this situation has several causes. The municipality has another InfoPoint that is more visible, but does not cover the specifics of energy efficiency. The Energy InfoPoint was visited by about 50 persons since the launch and most of the questions posed were very technical.

Citizens that need audiences on specific, simple measures do not use the EIP due to the fact that the Energy Info Point is located in a not so visible location and the fact that it is not heavily promoted.

In the future ABMEE plans to develop the EIP while increasing the capacity of the Agency.

The BISE initiative has proven to be a success and the 2nd BISE forum took place in October 2006. This event had more participants than the one in 2005, during the Energy Efficiency Week, and more actors from the field of energy and environment were present. The BISE process will continue and ABMEE will be involved in the further development of this initiative.
