The ASPIRE project was launched in October 2006, bringing together a partnership of 12 organisations representing 10 communities across the EU.
The main objective of the project is to develop a replicable model for creating 'Sustainable Energy Communities' in peripheral areas of the EU. This will involve the drafting and adoption of Sustainable Energy Action Plans, and wide engagement with EU citizens and key stakeholders through a combination of education, capacity building and community engagement activities.
Through this process, ASPIRE will seek to demonstrate the key role that energy plays in the economic and social development of communities and how better integration of sustainable energy measures can contribute to overall economic sustainability.
ASPIRE is supported by the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme.
