IMI - The Institute for Infrastructure, Environment and Innovation is developing an initiative for a project idea by taking the task of reviewing the European issues and opportunities of Ocean and Tidal Energy using as project name the Greek acronym Okeanos (sea). This will mainly concern the possibilities for European financing and the legal and organisational aspects regarding the siting of Tidal and Ocean Energy in protected Marine and Estuarine environments. In Europe, this particularly regards the issue of protected Natura 2000 sites and related species and habitat protection. Additionally, the issue of the EU Marine Strategy in relation to Ocean Energy will also be considered; as well as new international technological development for this type of energy generation (from Dutch, UK, Japanese and US initiatives).
The initiative will be developed in close co-operation with stakeholders, including private and public project developers, NGOs, regional and national governments, European institutions. Orientation meetings with the different parties and experts as well as European institutions will be held in the coming months. Interested parties are invited to express their interest. The first international/European meeting for OKEANOS is currently being planned.
In particular, IMI is looking for English and/or German partners
