In the first Concerto II call, 42 projects were received, of which 17 were above the threshold of minimum quality level. There are expected to be sufficient funds within the budget to fund the 9 best Concerto projects selected from the first Concerto Call:
Details of these projects can be found at: ec.europa.eu/energy/res/fp6_projects/concerto_en.htm
Further information can be seen in the video recordings of a presentation by Karl Kellner, Head of Unit, European Commission, Energy and Transport DG on Day 1 of the European Conference of Municipal Energy Managers held in Stuttgart in July 2004.
Presentations, Video Recordings and Transcripts from an Information Day and Interactive Chat held in June 2003 are available on this website.

CONCERTO falls within the Sixth Framework Programme (2002-2006) for research, technological development and demonstration (RTD), non-nuclear energy research is mainly funded under the "Sustainable Energy Systems" (SES) thematic sub-priority. Calls for Proposals can be found at: fp6.cordis.lu/fp6/calls_activity.cfm?ID_ACTIVITY=315.
What is Concerto?
The best orchestral performance blends together harmoniously the sounds of the different instruments. So it is with energy strategies, where a local community is best served by blending together different sources of energy, and techniques and technologies for increasing energy efficiency. Concerto is a major new European Union initiative which will support local communities in developing concrete initiatives that are both sustainable and highly energy-efficient. Such communities may be new or existing, and seeking to improve their energy performance.
Communities supported by Concerto will be working towards a completely integrated energy policy, harmonising a substantial use of renewable energy sources with innovative technologies and systems to minimise energy consumption and to improve the quality of citizens' lives.
EU funding for a typical Concerto project is likely to fall in the range of EUR 5-15 million, and to represent up to 35% of the eligible project costs. This funding will come from the EU's Sixth Research Framework Programme (FP6), and will support integrated demonstration and dissemination actions (including a significant (up to 20%) short-term research component) which are carried out with an EU dimension and which involve the real-scale application of new, renewable and efficient energy technologies.
