Partner Search Request: Bike Trails for a sustainable development in rural areas - ECOTRACKS, Portugal

InnovModel Sustainability and Portuguese Catholic University (coordinator) are looking for partners for a project to implement cycle ways in rural areas in order to improve an energy efficient mobility of local population and tourists through participative mechanisms.

The current project aims at implementing cycle ways in rural areas in order to improve an energy efficient mobility of local population and tourists. The participative mechanisms used along the project intend to achieve a high level of awareness and involve local population bringing the project closer of their interests and raise its quality. Because of the poor service of public transport, rural areas residents are becoming more dependent of the private transport. This practice reduces their mobility and/or requires less economic solutions with less energy efficiency and more overall carbon emissions. Nevertheless, country side shows a great potential for the creation of cycle paths: it benefits of land space, security and nature beauty.

Therefore, stimulating the use of bicycles inside these communities becomes the main objective of this project with the promotion of cycle image and the infra structure planning, proposed to the local administrations.

Another implicit question relates to rural tourism that is getting more expression nowadays. Alternative ecological mobility that can offer more quality for those who looks for the country peace and healthy lifestyle should be offered in order to achieve environmental low impact tourism.

Key actions:

• Search and engage regional partners: local tourism managers, rural and/or eco-tourism house owners and Local Public Authorities
• Organize participative forums in which can be enabled significant inputs from local residents
• To list all the places with historical, cultural, scenic and ecological relevance
• Study and design of the paths
